Did you know that Prince George’s County requires residents to register ferrets, dogs, and cats that are 4 months or older? It’s $5 per year for spayed or neutered animals (you need to show proof the first time) and $25 per year for unaltered pets. A license must be obtained within 30 days of residency, and you must show proof of rabies vaccination. After you register your pet you will receive a yearly renewal notice. If you are 65 years or older you may get up to 2 free licenses per year for pets that have been altered. Hobby licenses must be purchased for those with 5 or more pets.
Pit Bull Terriers have been illegal in Prince George’s County since 1996 and cannot be registered.
You may mail in your registration or register your pet(s) in person at the College Park Municipal Center at 4500 Knox Road. The hours sometimes change, so it’s best to call first (301-864-5585).
